Governance

As units of democracy, Gram Sabhas enable the voice of every citizen of a village to be heard. IDYWC interventions are designed to carry out systematic campaigns in the villages to strengthen grassroots governance through Gram Sabha facilitation to enable the villagers to raise their voice and make demands against their problems in the meeting.

For mainstreaming  the  panchyats  IDYWC   builds  capacities and enhances skills  among  the elected representatives of the panchayats, that is, Sarpanch and Panchs,  and especially women leaders  through “Transformative Leadership Course'.

Women always have different sets of priorities in development, like food security, water, health and education, it becomes necessary to mobilise women to participate in large numbers in these Gram Sabhas to articulate their views and concerns.  The organisation provides support to women – as a sangathan member as well as the women panchayat leaders – of each operational village to participate actively in the Gram Sabhas. The organisation acts as a facilitator to enable the women to raise their voice and make demands against their problems in the meeting.

Efforts have been made to enable these women to participate actively in the decision-making process. It increases conducive atmosphere to enable women participation in local governance and their representation as a panchayat leader.

These efforts helps the villagers to  increase their access in availing the benefits from the panchayats, such as pension for old age, disabled and for widows, scholarship for disabled students, etc. provided by the state and the central government.
