What We Do
Adivasi Shramik Sangathan
IDYWC is involved in organising tribal communities, strengthening the sangathans (people's organisations) and building capacity of the sangathan members. An informal process of federating these sangathans was started with cluster level committees and a regional forum known as 'Adivasi Shramik Sangathan' has emerged. Women are active and equal participants in the sangathan at all levels and they constitute about 45 per cent of total members. IDYWC has been made regular efforts to build up capacities of sangathan members through various trainings and meetings and enhance their knowledge base.
These sangathans meet twice in a month on regular basis at the village and cluster level separately to discuss individual and common issues and finding causes and solutions.
Clusters consisting of five villages have been formed for closer monitoring by the organisation and greater participation of the villagers in the village development activities. Quarterly meeting of each cluster is organised separately.
IDYWC is proactively engaged in changing the position of women in the society through these sangathans and provides conductive atmosphere to enable participation of women in political participation and representation. They are particularly perceptive about the larger political reality especially the roles concerning about the panchayats and community in relation to their villages and their lives.
Development Advisory Board
IDYWC believes in forging a spirit of partnership with the community and be genuine partners in their development. It wishes to bring in transparency and accountability in its operations, which would go a long way in capacity building of the community and developing its self-confidence in managing development.
In view of the above, a Development Advisory Board (DAB) has been formed. The board consists of four members from each cluster (two men and two women). The board has elected president and vice-president while project director of IDYWC is its secretary. It takes important decisions about present projects and plans for future. Significant decisions are taken by the sectoral committees to the board. The project director is accountable to the entire board.
